Roy Exum: COVID Cases Plunge! Monday, January 25, 2021 - by Roy Exum

There are many things about the COVID pandemic that I do not understand, but there are a whole lot of things I will never understand and that makes almost every day a little more fun. I’ve always been an “inch-by inch, anything’s a cinch” guy and like the shiny side of most of what I find but I cannot find one person who can tell me why Hamilton County’s coronavirus numbers plunged 36 percent last week.
I think a lot of it is due to prayer but I’m going to tell you this: The smartest in white coats are gratified yet mystified. In the last seven days Hamilton County has had 1,409 new and confirmed cases. Sadly, we have had 11 additional deaths when a couple of weeks ago we had that many in one day.
Roy Exum: Our Dec. 31 SNAFU Sunday, January 3, 2021 - by Roy Exum

Have you ever heard a senior citizen cuss? I mean, really bad words with ‘added emphasis’ on the syllables? Yes, our ‘New Year’s Eve SNAFU’ was that bad … no, check that … It was ‘Situation. Normal: All. (Fouled). Up.” To wit: on the front lines during World War II – today’s over age 75 era, mind you – was when the acronym SNAFU was born into the American dictionary. And back then, the ‘F word” was far better fitting than the substitute: ‘fouled.’ Hark! it was used this past Thursday far more than ever before, by our citizens over 75 years old who were rightfully furious over the abuse they endured by a grossly incompetent Chattanooga Hamilton County Department of Heath.
And they didn’t have to see their Long Island concierge doctor…

Daily Beast: People over 75 lined up for hours in Tennessee to get a chance at a COVID-19 vaccine only to find out that staff distributing the inoculations gave away doses to friends and family after telling hundreds who’d waited for hours that no more shots were available.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Hamilton County officials say miscalculations led to late-evening vaccinations in the Tennessee Riverpark in Chattanooga on New Year’s Eve, long after people were turned away and told there were no more vaccines available.
There was a huge turnout, with long lines of cars waiting to access the park and many people being turned away.
According to WRCB, they acted on a tip and returned to Riverpark after dark to find cars leaving the property. The people in those vehicles told WRCB family members or friends who were helping to administer the vaccines called to tell them there were extra doses and they should come to receive a dose.
