Fly-tipping in Longtown branded an appalling disgrace

The issue was discussed at an Arthuret Parish Council at meeting earlier this month. Councillor Robert Bart said he contacted the city council after tyres were dumped along the road between Netherby and Longtown asking for them to be taken away. He added: I know it s been noted before but there is rubbish everywhere. I think maybe we could set up something months, or every Saturday or Sunday just to try and get a many people out picking up rubbish on the roads in and out of Longtown. Councillor Sir James Graham Bart, council chairman said: It s an appalling disgrace now around Longtown.  

£9 million saved in 10 years by Carlisle City Council

MORE than £9m in savings have been found by Carlisle City Council in the past decade. It set its 2021/22 budget on Wednesday night at a special full council meeting. A revised savings requirement has been calculated of £0.5m in 2021/22; increasing to £1.2m in 2022/23 and further increasing to £2.05m in 2023/24. Leader of Carlisle City Council, Councillor John Mallinson, said: “Even through extremely challenging times, we have continued to deliver services and support our local residents and businesses. “Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to contribute towards our new budget. It continues to focus on the priorities of the council and aims to boost our economy as well as promoting health and wellbeing within our communities.

Chance to have your say on Carlisle City Council s budget

Residents are being given the chance to share their thoughts on the draft council budget. Carlisle City Council s Executive Committee is now consulting with city residents, businesses and organisations about next year s budget. In the past decade, the council has achieved or identified more than £9 million in transformational savings, with a revised savings requirement being calculated for the next two years. It suggests an increase from £1 million to £1.2 million in 2021/22, with a further increase to £2.05 million in 2023/24.
