Congressman Fred Upton is hoping President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure plan will get some adjustments to allow for bipartisanship and ultimate approval. Upton told WSJM News this week there are real needs when it comes to infrastructure.
“Obviously, here in Michigan we need help with our roads and bridges,” Upton said. “That’s a no brainer, but there are other issues that we need to work on too. We as a delegation have been working on getting a new lock built up at the Soo strait, and that work is progressing.”
Upton says improvements to the electric grid and more money for broadband are also needed. However, he thinks the infrastructure plan will have to be pared down a bit.

Congressman Fred Upton has sent a letter to the Biden administration to ask that Michigan’s allocation of COVID-19 vaccinations be increased as the state deals with a surge in new cases of the illness. He and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell jointly sent the letter Thursday. “The number of new coronavirus cases in Michigan has risen rapidly in recent weeks, which has placed growing stress on the state’s public health infrastructure. An increase in vaccine allocation to the state will help save lives and effectively deal with this new outbreak,” they write. Upton and Dingell also note hospitalizations and deaths are approaching levels last seen during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in December of 2020. The state saw more than 7,800 new cases of COVID on Thursday alone. The letter from Upton and Dingell can be seen here.
