Upton Encouraged By Michigan Expanding Vaccine Eligibility

March 16, 2021 With COVID-19 vaccine eligibility opening up to more people in Michigan soon, Congressman Fred Upton is encouraged to see light at the end of the tunnel. He tells WSJM News Michigan is going to be one of the first states to open enrollment to anyone 16 or older. “As we are looking now at the county totals, and here in Berrien I saw over the weekend we’re just under 15% of our  population is now vaccinated, but the good news is that by opening that up so everybody can qualify, that means in fact that we’re going to have the supplies to make sure we get there,” Upton said. “So full speed ahead.”

Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement: “ A year into this pandemic, it’s clear that Michiganders and Americans still need additional support to put food on the table, pay their bills and make ends meet. I have heard gut-wrenching personal stories from countless Michiganders – who are trying to keep their heads above water and get through this public health and economic crisis. This landmark aid package includes robust funding to distribute direct $1,400 stimulus checks, accelerate vaccine distribution, help ensure schools can reopen safely, extend unemployment benefits, support small businesses and help communities carry out essential functions. I was proud to help pass the American Rescue Plan in the Senate, and I look forward to President Bide

Upton Working On Follow Up To 2016 Medical Research Legislation

March 10, 2021 Congressman Fred Upton is working on a version 2.0 of his 21st Century Cures legislation. He met with President Joe Biden last week to discuss how the first bill, passed in 2016, has been working. Upton and legislative partner on the plan Congresswoman Diana DeGette sought Biden’s thoughts on the next bill. “We wanted to update where we are on many different fronts as it’s literally been five years,” Upton told WSJM News. “From President Biden’s perspective, his idea is to have a whole new research arm with the Department of HHS to really go out, study, research, and finance cancer research to an even larger degree.”
