Democrats are speaking out loudly against Florida s new election law, and lawsuits have been filed by groups that claim it restricts minorities rights to vote.
Republican Congressman Byron Donalds of Southwest Florida says there s nothing wrong with the law, which includes a ban on ballot harvesting. That s not discriminatory. It s not racist. It s not Jim Crow 2.0, which is just laughable to me. Especially as a Black man it s exceedingly laughable and frankly it s disgusting.
The Jim Crow line was uttered by South Florida Senator Shevrin Jones about the law, signed this week by Gov Ron DeSantis. It allows immediate family members or caregivers to collect voters ballots, but bars anyone else from getting your ballot and bringing it to the polls.

We learned Wednesday the federal government sent hundreds of unaccompanied children who crossed the border to Southwest Florida over the last several months.
The School District of Lee County says it saw a slight increase in migrant students in April.
According to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 117 unaccompanied children were released to sponsors in Collier County from October to March 31.
With a growing number of children traveling across the border alone, Congressman Byron Donalds told Cape Coral City Council Wednesday this could add stress to school systems in Southwest Florida.
Few things are more important here in Southwest Florida than the quality of our water.
Residents and businesses depend on clean water. Lakes, rivers, canals, ponds and the Gulf of Mexico are all in jeopardy as growth and development surges and environmental changes take place.
Red tide and toxic blue green algae had a suffocating impact on Southwest Florida in the summer of 2018, affecting the health of those who live and visit here, wildlife and the economy.
Raw sewage spills, massive discharges from Lake Okeechobee, fertilizers and other pollution contribute to the challenges that face us in 2021 and the future.
