The U.S. Justice Department's internal watchdog on Monday said his office was launching an investigation on whether current or former department officials made an "improper attempt" to seek to alter the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Perry, a Pennsylvania Republican from York County, said he introduced former President Donald J. Trump and Department of Justice lawyer Jeffrey Clark, who subscribed to Trump s false claims that the election was stolen, at the former president s request.

House Dems deliver impeachment to the Senate as GOP backs off on criticism of Trump

WASHINGTON House Democrats delivered the impeachment case against Donald Trump to the Senate for the start of his historic trial, but Republican senators were easing off their criticism of the former president and shunning calls to convict him over the deadly siege at the U.S. Capitol.
It s an early sign of Trump s enduring sway over the party.
The nine House prosecutors carried the sole impeachment charge of incitement of insurrection across the Capitol on Monday night in a solemn and ceremonial march to the Senate along the same halls the rioters ransacked just weeks ago. In a scene reminiscent of just a year ago Trump is the first president twice impeached the lead House prosecutor, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, stood before the Senate to read the House resolution charging high crimes and misdemeanors.
Headline by headline, Perry had taken the moderate seat vacated by Platts, who prided himself on running positive campaigns and later became a York County judge, and pushed it further to the far right.
He started to face more opposition in his new, gerrymandered 10th Congressional district, which included all of Dauphin County and parts of Cumberland and York counties.
Perry inherited more Democrats from Harrisburg and the surrounding suburbs as well as a 2018 challenger who was an Army veteran and Lutheran pastor in favor of gun safety.
