The Good Lord waved Eileen M. Brayton around third base, Sunday, May 9, 2021, and brought her home. Born Jan. 31, 1928, to Clara and Ray Lyman in Kirkland, Wash., Eileen passed away, like a whisper, at 93, in her home surrounded by her family.
Eileen was one of three sisters. She grew up in Kirkland, attended Kirkland High School, and entered WSU (WSC) where she met, and married, her husband of 67 years, Charles âBoboâ Brayton. After 11 years at Yakima Valley Junior College, where Bobo taught, coached baseball, football and assisted in basketball, they moved to Pullman in 1961, where they raised their family and Bobo coached the WSU Cougar baseball team for 33 seasons. After Bobo retired in 1993, the couple retired to their Red Cougar River Ranch outside Pullman until Boboâs death in 2015. Eileen moved to Spokane in 2017, where she remained until her passing.
Joan Martin
Joan Charlotte Martin, 83, was called to her heavenly home on May 3rd, 2021 with her loving family by her side in Fargo, North Dakota.
Joan was born in Spiritwood, North Dakota, on November 3rd, 1937 to Gene and Edith (Long) Dresser. She was a creative and scholarly child. She played the violin and piano and graduated as valedictorian from Jamestown High School. Joan married the love of her life, Delton Martin, on June 13th, 1959 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Jamestown, North Dakota. They settled in Spiritwood to raise their three sons.
Joan had a lifelong passion for helping others. She completed her BS in Nursing at Jamestown College, including a year-long residency at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. While employed at Jamestown Hospital, she continued her education and completed a social work degree. Following her employment with Jamestown Hospital, Joan became a child protection investigator for Stutsman County Social Services for the next twenty-seven

A visible display of appreciation for local nurses will spring up on the lawns of the Douglas County Courthouse and Essentia Health-St. Mary’s during National Nurses Week, May 6-12. The signs are a message from Northern Waters Parish Nurse Ministry, a way to recognize how difficult the year has been for nurses who live and work in Superior and Douglas County.
“We’re hoping to make sure all the nurses in our area feel supported and appreciated,” said Lyndi Sakuray, executive director of Northern Waters Parish Nurse Ministry.
