Tandem cyclist calls for support from govt May 25, 2021 Ghana’s para-cyclist, Frederick Assor has bemoaned the lack of support from government towards preparations for the upcoming Tokyo Paralympics. According to Assor, who is among the few athletes to secure qualification to represent Ghana at the Olympic Games, they are currently struggling to prepare for the competition with no support from the authorities. “With just three months to go, we have not heard anything from authorities and it is becoming very difficult for us to prepare for the Games,” he said in an interview with the Times Sports. The tandem cyclist who has been camping at Mataheko in Accra with support from the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) said the situation was disheartening and needed to be addressed to ensure they performed well at the Games.

GBA issues guidelines for July 22 elections May 7, 2021 The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has set July 22 for the election of new executives for the next four years. According to an election guideline signed by General Secretary, Mr. Patrick Johnson, nominations for the elections would open from June 1-21 between 9am to 5pm each day. It added that, only members in good standing can contest and/or vote in the GBA elections, explaining that persons who has duly paid for and has been issued with a current license qualified to participate in the process. “Nomination forms will be available for purchase at GH¢ 100 each at the GBA Secretariat located at the Bukom Boxing Arena with candidates vying for positions required to pay submission fees to be eligible to contest,” it added.

Alhaji Tofik appointed WABU Veep May 5, 2021 Alhaji Tofik Ace boxing promoter, Alhaji Muritala Tofik, has been appointed the Vice President of the revived West Africa Boxing Union (WABU). He will deputise for the current President of the boxing regulatory body for the West African sub region, Remi Aboderin from Nigeria. The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ambition Boxing Promotion is expected to bring his rich experience in the sport’s administration to bear as WABU reaches out to countries within the sub-region to revive the sport of boxing. Less than six months after his tenure, Ghana has had the opportunity to stage two WABU championships, the last of which was held at the Lebanon House on Saturday in Accra where Illiasu Sulley stopped Mawuli Folivi to win the WABU middleweight strap.
