COVID-19: 7 doctors dead in Ghana

According to the President of the Association Dr. Frank Ankobea, five of the doctors died last when the deadly virus entered ghana in 2020 and two passed away in 2021. The number of doctors who are getting infected is increasing. We have lost 7 of them ( 2 this year and 5 last year). We are monitoring things and if there s the need to recommend extra restrictions to the President, trust the GMA to do that. We should embrace what the President has said as Ghanaians. We should take individual responsibility for ourselves and follow the basic rules and I m sure we’ll be fine to go, Dr. Frank Ankobea said in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM.

Coronavirus: Five Nurses Dead, Over 800 Infected – GRNMA

  The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has disclosed that five nurses and midwives have died since the outbreak of Coronavirus in Ghana last year. According to the Association, over 800 nurses have also been hit with the virus some of whom have recovered and returned to work. Speaking to Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Monday, the General Secretary of the GRNMA David Tenkorang-Twum said a lot more effort is needed by the government to ensure the safety of health professionals. “I can confirm that we have lost 2 midwives and 3 nurses. As of August last year, 840 of our people got infected but they have recovered and returned to work. It’s becoming overwhelming because before we used to detect the virus early but with the new variant, people are reporting very sick and you can’t send them home,” he said.

Ghana: Nurses Call for Strict Covid-19 Prevention Protocols At Health Facilities

+ The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association is asking managers of health institutions across the country to step up their COVID-19 preventive measures in their institutions. The Association says a visit to some health facilities show a breakdown of the protocols, a situation they describe as extremely worrying. According to the president of the association, Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, the blatant disregard for the COVID-19 protocols at these health facilities has resulted in increasing the number of COVID-19 infections among health workers. She said due to the direct contact nurses and midwives have with patients at health facilities, they are at high risk of COVID-19 infection hence the urgent need for measures to be put in place to protect health workers.
