The Contra Costa County Sheriffâs Office will report on its civil immigration enforcement activities throughout 2020 at the Truth Act Virtual Community Forum on Tuesday, July 27 at 9 a.m.
The Truth Act (AB 2792), which was signed into law by former Gov. Jerry Brown in September 2016 and went into effect Jan. 1, 2017, requires a local legislative body that has provided U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with access to an individual during the last year to hold at least one public forum to provide information about that access and to receive and consider public comment.
Community members can participate in the forum via phone, email and Zoom. The forum can be streamed online here and can be watched on CCTV at AT&T U-Verse channel 99, Comcast channel 27 or Wave channel 32. Call-in info, including the phone number and access code, will be provided on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors July 27 agenda; access it here when itâs posted at
A fatal shooting in Pinole Thursday started as a dispute between family members, police said.
Jeramy Dorsey, 25, of Oakland, allegedly shot a member of his family, whose identity was not immediately known, at a residence in the 1100 block of Encina Avenue, police said.
Dorsey was subsequently shot by a police officer who responded to the scene. Police say body-worn camera footage shows that Dorsey fired one shot at the officer prior to being shot by the officer.
The incident unfolded at about 1:10 p.m., when police were dispatched to the home on a report of a disturbance. While responding, officers learned from the reporting party that a person had been shot and that the suspect had fled on foot. The victim died at the scene.
