Ferrari will develop SF21 ‘until June’ for P3 fight

Better than expected in the Bahrain GP, Ferrari will reportedly continue to develop the SF21 “until June” as they fight for P3 in the championship.
Slumping to sixth in the 2020 championship, Ferrari initially feared this season could be a repeat of last year’s campaign.
Already though, there is cause for optimism with both Scuderia drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, in the points at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
That, however, comes with complications of its own.
With Formula 1 introducing a new era of ground-effect aerodynamic cars in 2022, teams have to decide whether to concentrate solely on the new car or split their efforts between 2021’s car and the new design – and they have to do that while operating under a budget cap.

Charles Leclerc has a Ferrari deal that runs until the end of the 2024 season but already the driver is speaking about extending it.
Leclerc joined Ferrari in 2019, signing for the Italian stable ahead of its engine controversy.
That season Ferrari were accused by their rivals of running an illegal engine, resulting in the FIA issuing several Technical Directives aimed at preventing abuse of the fuel-flow rules.
Ferrari’s pace immediately tailed off with neither Leclerc nor Sebastian Vettel adding to the team’s three wins in the wake of the TDs.

Discussing the importance of being prepared for new regulations, Jan Monchaux says Alfa Romeo are still suffering from Sauber’s 2017 issues.
Alfa Romeo are one of many teams who have stated that they’re already turning their attention to developing their 2022 car rather than working on their current challenger. This is because widespread regulation changes are being introduced.
The last time major changes were made was in 2017, and the team then known as Sauber, struggled to adapt, ultimately finishing bottom of the Constructors’ Championship with just five points to their name.

Formula One is among the most popular sports in the world but remains under-reported by American media.
The first Formula One (F1) race in the 2021 season took place in Bahrain on March 28. Even though the grandstands were empty, the new F1 cars’ engines revving reverberated through the racecourse and could be heard for miles. The numerous 2021 F1 regulation changes did little to change the race’s result: The seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished first, followed by Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas.
