Fiji has called on the Commonwealth nations for stronger commitment and collaboration in driving comprehensive action to combat climate change and realisation of the future towards net zero emissions and more resilient societies.
Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama highlighted this while delivering a statement yesterday at the first virtual Commonwealth Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change.
The PM stressed on the challenges faced in relation to climate change and the impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic and reminded the Commonwealth parliamentarians that they played an important role in the realisation of climate actions.

Fiji has called for stronger commitment and collaboration among the Commonwealth nations in driving comprehensive action to combat climate change and realisation of the future towards net zero emissions and resilient societies.
This message was articulated by the Fijian Prime Minister, Honourable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama while delivering a statement today at the first virtual Commonwealth Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change.
Prime Minister Bainimarama spoke on the challenges faced by Fiji in relation to climate change and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Fiji doesn’t have any local cases of the coronavirus. Our people are safe. But our economy, which relies heavily on tourism, has been badly stricken, sapping Government revenues at a time when we need every dollar we can dedicate to building our resilience.

SUVA, March 16 (Xinhua) Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama urged on Tuesday the Commonwealth nations to make a stronger commitment to combating climate change in the buildup to the upcoming 26th United Nations Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP26), which will take place in Britain in November this year.
According to a Fijian government statement on Tuesday night, while delivering a statement at the first virtual Commonwealth Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change, Bainimarama called for stronger commitment and collaboration among the Commonwealth nations in driving comprehensive action to combat climate change and realization of the future towards net-zero emissions and resilient societies.
