SYRACUSE â Town Council named new officers for 2021 during Tuesdayâs meeting, but the final gathering of 2020 ended non-harmoniously.
At the end of the meeting, nominations were opened for council president for 2021. Council member Tom Hoover nominated Larry Siegel, who then nominated Hoover as vice president.
Things then became a little contentious when current Council President Paul Stoelting suggested that since Siegel was going to be council president again, maybe someone else should be redevelopment commission president.
Stoelting said it was no reflection on the job Siegel has done in that role. âYouâve been a model of community participation and youâve done a great jobâ but Stoelting felt more people should be involved. If nothing else, he suggested someone else on the commission or the council should be co-president of the redevelopment commission.

NAPPANEE â Nappanee Board of Works members Monday renewed annual contracts for 2021 and all had some increase over the 2020 contracts.
The board approved the 2021 contract with City Attorney Brian Hoffer. The contract has a slight increase and pays $7,200 for attendance at City Council and Board of Public Works meetings, payable at $600 a month from the general fund and the wastewater treatment plant/board of works fund. The hourly rate was increased $5 to $150 an hour.
Also approved was the contract with Jeff Kitson, doing business as Kitson Development Corp. as executive director of the Chamber of Commerce and the Redevelopment Commission. The contract spells out Kitsonâs duties and is for $104,260, payable bi-weekly in installments of 26 pay periods of $4,010.19. Kitson is responsible for paying his employeeâs pay and benefits from that amount.
