Rock blasting planned daily in May and June at MPEC construction site downtown

CLARKSVILLE, TN – Rock blasting will begin Tuesday, May 4, and be staged in the late morning and early afternoon each weekday at the Montgomery County Multi-Purpose Event Center site. The blasting will be done to prepare the site between First and Second streets and Main and College streets for construction of the event center, which is scheduled to be finished at the end of 2022. The blasting is expected to be finished by the end of June. Plans for the MPEC, shown from Main and Second Streets. Plans for the MPEC, shown from College and First Streets. First Street closed between College and Main for 1 year due to MPEC construction

A one-block section of First Street from College to Main street will close for at least one year while work proceeds on the Multi-Purpose Events Center being built by Montgomery County. Construction officials said the closure of First Street was necessary to support construction activities as the project moves into its next phase. Signs and barricades are placed on the street. “In the next month our crane and steel operations will pick up, and some more underground utility work will begin,” said John Yunker, construction supervisor for Skanska USA, the project’s construction management company. “It’s the absolute best option to close the street and create a construction zone because of all the activity we will be seeing.”
