A South Carolina correctional officer has been charged with allegedly smuggling pills into prison by concealing them inside Rice Krispies treats.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections said Thursday that 43-year-old Marcy T. Shaffer had been arrested and charged with misconduct in office, possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and furnishing prisoners with contraband. Authorities say that Shaffer admitted to the crime and was fired after her arrest. The charges against her involve attempting to smuggle the pills into the institution in a Rice Krispies treat, a press release from the department states. The S.C. Department of Corrections reminds members of the public that after an arrest, the burden of proof is on the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt within a court of law.

According to reports, a South Carolina corrections officer was caught trying to smuggle Rice Krispies Treats into the facility filled with pills.
Marcy T. Shafer, 43, was nabbed after attempting to sneak in the drug-laden snacks into the Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution in Richland County. In the pictures released by the South Carolina Department of Corrections, there are visible orange and oval-shaped pills sprinkled throughout the treats.
Authorities believe the pills are amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Shafer admitted to the crime and was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, furnishing prisoners with contraband, and misconduct in the office.

Manning resident Terry Land is passionate about doing God’s work, and starting in 2010, that work took the form of ministering to the inmates of Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution through an organization called Kairos Prison Ministries International, or Kairos for short. The Kairos Ministry itself has been serving for 31 years inside the walls of Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution, of which I have been a part of for 11 years.
Kairos is a Greek word meaning “in God’s special time” or “in the fullness of time”, and the organization uses the word not only as its name, but also to represent the impact that time and choices have on those to whom it ministers.
