Liam Heylin AN elderly couple planning to attend evening mass were informed of a plan to ‘rob’ their house when they were out and they gave permission to have six officers in the house to catch them in an investigation called Operation Evening Mass. That was the evidence of the couple, who have been married for 43 years, which was presented to Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin and a jury of seven men and five women at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Woman jailed for seven years for burglary at home of Cork pensioner A 35-year-old woman has been jailed for seven years for her part in a burglary where a 76 year old man ended up being locked into a room for 14 hours until he was discovered by a relative. Angelique Arundel, originally from Shannon Lawn in Mayfield in Cork but currently of No Fixed Abode, had denied a charge of burglary at a house at St John’s, Bull Lane, Blackrock on May 1st 2020 But today a jury of eleven women and one man at Cork Circuit Criminal Court took just 40 minutes to find Arundel guilty of the sole count on the indictment on the second day of her trial.

Man who broke in to house and told pensioner he was a guard jailed for six years A man who posed as a garda after breaking in to the home of an 83 year old woman in Cork city during the first Covid 19 lockdown has been jailed for six years.  Anthony Horgan (44) of  no fixed abode was involved in the burglary of five houses in the Tower Street/High Street area of Cork city on the 17th of April 2020.    Horgan, who has 88 previous convictions, was charged with and pleaded guilty to five counts of burglary and one count of aggravated burglary.
