Panama City Florida downtown gets new glassblowing business

PANAMA CITY Glassmaking was America’s first industry and the classic art of glass blowing hasn’t changed much in the 400 years since the colonies were established. Now the historical art has found a home in one of Downtown Panama City’s historical buildings as another eclectic business blows new life into Harrison Avenue. “What I like to tell folks is if we went back to the 1600s and I got a glass blower from then and somehow got them here,” said Devon Murphy, director of activities at Panama City Hot Glass, “that once they could get over electricity and cars, that me and him could totally do this. It hasn’t changed since then, same tools, slightly different technology.”
