CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â With students preparing to take their STAAR tests later this spring, there will be no online alternative for parents who don t want to send their children back to school over COVID-19 concerns.
The Texas Education Agency announced Friday that students will have to take the standardized tests in person under the supervision of a test administrator.
A parent and a student at Evans Elementary School in Corpus Christi were happy to hear the news.
âIâd rather do it in class, because you can focus on it more, fifth grader Sofia Rivas said.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â The newest principal working for the Corpus Christi Independent School District is also a veteran.
If you judged Sarah Owen solely by her military experience, youâd figure sheâd be working in the medical field, but she says education is her true passion, and itâs led her to CCISDâs James Fannin Elementary School.
âI truly believe youâre where youâre supposed to be in the world, and this is where Iâm supposed to be right nowâ said Owen.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â When you think back to those days of participating in science fair, you will recall looking for that tri-fold board, doing some research and nervously presenting to a group of judges.
This year those nerves can be calmed as students do things virtually.
âEverything is virtual, they submit their boards virtually there are no more of the trifled boards, we even had our secondary students submit recorded presentations,â said Wendy Devoe, a secondary science specialist for the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
