University of Glasgow: £1 1M PROJECT AIMS TO HEAT UK HOMES MORE SUSTAINABLY

Share A new project which aims to heat British houses more sustainably with a new generation of air source heat pump has won £1.1m in support from the UK Government. The project, titled ‘Flexible Air Source Heat pump for domestic heating decarbonisation’, or FASHION, brings together researchers from the Universities of Glasgow and Birmingham. Over the next three years, they will work to develop air source heat pumps which overcome the limitations of the current generation of heat pump technology and reduce the amount of power they consume. FASHION is one of 11 new projects funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) which aim to decarbonise the heating and cooling of buildings.

Funding boost for net zero cold food chain plans

Funding boost for net zero cold food chain plans Share Food cold chain sustainability part of £2.9m award to University of Birmingham to support energy-related projects Researchers have secured £1.4m of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding to produce a landmark roadmap for how the UK s extensive cold food chain industry can curb its significant emissions. The University of Birmingham is leading the four-year project, which aims to set out the ways the cold food chain can align with the UK s climate goals whilst remaining competitive, it announced late last week. Academics from Heriot-Watt University, London South Bank University, and Cranfield University are also involved in the government-backed project, which will bring together scientists, innovators, customers, and retailers to map a whole-system approach to reducing the emissions impact of the sector.
