More than 600 pregnant women in the Central Division have contracted COVID-19. Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Head at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Dr Kelera Sakumeni in a webinar said seven out of every ten pregnant women at the hospital have tested positive for coronavirus. Sakumeni said she feels more pregnant women have contracted the virus but have not been diagnosed for it yet. “I feel that this is a small number and there is a much bigger number out there because the women that are getting diagnosed are the ones that are coming into maternity. “The women are swabbed upon arrival before admission, this is the protocol in place at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital,” she said.

Fijilive - Cases won t be used as an indicator: Dr Fong Gateway to Fiji, Fiji News, Fiji Rugby, Fiji Football, Fiji Sports, Fiji Picture Gallery, Fiji Business, etc

Aug 03, 2021 02:11:27 PM The Health Ministry will not use the number of positive tests per day as an indicator to analyse the COVID-19 situation in the country. Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong in an interview said the Ministry will instead use the number of admissions in hospitals. Dr Fong said seven out of every ten pregnant women at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital testing positive for the virus means there is still an increase in community transmissions. “The percentage of women who are positive when they come into labour are the kinds of things we will be using as indicators,” he said.
