Mayor: House Bill 110 provision bad idea for small city health districts

GALION A provision in the state budget bill may force smaller Ohio cities to close their health departments and join their county health district.
A section of Ohio House Bill 110 would require cities “with a population less than 50,000 served by a board of health of a city health district to complete a study evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of merging with the general health district that includes the city for the administration of health affairs in the merged general health district.”

Galion city health commissioner resigns
GALION The City of Galion will be seeking a new health commissioner.
Mayor Tom O’Leary, chairperson of the board of health, said Galion City Health Department Commissioner Trish Factor submitted a letter of resignation to the board of health during its meeting on Tuesday, April 13. Her resignation is effective May 10, O’Leary said.
Factor has served as Galion health commissioner since March 2015. Prior to joining the Galion City Health Department, Factor served as the public health accreditation coordinator for the Wood County Health District. She worked for seven years as an emergency response planner for the Wood, Crawford, and Seneca health departments. Her professional background includes working as a health educator/disaster planner for the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department.
Scrap tire & mattress collection set for April 17 in Galion

The Galion City Health Department in partnership with the Ohio EPA Mosquito Control Grant, Monn’s Trash Removal and Willig Tire Recycling LLC will collect up to 350 scrap tires (PTE) and 150 mattresses on a first come, first serve basis free to the community.
Willig Tire Recycling will help collect the tires from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 17 at Innovative Recycling, 352 South Street, Galion.
Identification will be checked for Galion residency and there will be a limit of five passenger tires per person. Again, this will be a first come, first serve basis. After 350 passenger tires are collected, the tires will not be accepted for free. The event is limited because of the remaining grant funds.
Galion Public Library to offer free COVID-19 home test kits beginning March 17

GALION The Galion Public Library, in partnership with the Galion City Health Department and the Ohio Department of Health, will have the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card Test, a COVID-19 rapid at-home test kit, available for free to the community.
Test kits will be available for contactless pickup at the Galion Public Library, located at 123 North Market Street in Galion beginning Wednesday, March 17, and available anytime 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Individuals seeking test kits will need to call 419-468-3203 and a library staff member will collect name, date of birth, and contact information then bring your testing kits and materials to you via curbside service.
