Is mentorship important? Brandon Caron, Kaleb Robinson and Elliott Spear all say yes. Of course, they say yes. They are part of a developing “mentor chain” with Trekkers, an experiential education and mentoring program for young people based in midcoast Maine. Mentor chains are a kind of “unicorn” in the youth development world, in which an alumnus or alumna becomes a mentor to a student who then graduates and becomes a mentor to a student, passing along the connection for each graduating class. Eventually, it forms a chain of committed volunteers who return to give back what they feel they received and serve as an example of the transformative power of mentorship.

Class of 2015 Alumnus, Kaleb Robinson, joined Trekkers as a Program Manager.
2017 Trekkers Alumnus, Mitchell DelFrate, joins Trekkers as an AmeriCorps member.
Two alumni have returned to Trekkers, joining the team as leaders who will facilitate or support in team meetings and mentor students.
In October, Trekkers said goodbye to Principle Program Manager Lindsey Veilleux, grateful for her over 5 years of strong leadership on the team, according to Trekkers, in a news release.
Kaleb Robinson, class of 2015 from Oceanside High School, hails from Thomaston and joined the team as a program manager.
After attending the University of Maine in Orono to receive a bachelor degree in Business Management, Robinson spent four months in Chile studying abroad. He earned a concentration in International Management and minor in Leadership Studies. Then, he returned to Maine to work with young people at both Camp Kieve and Mainebound.

The popular free summer concert series that includes Jazz on the Village Green in Havelock North and Summer in the Parks in Cornwall Park in Hastings will kick off on Saturday, January 30, and run till Sunday, February 28.

The concerts are a wonderfully relaxing and easy way to pass the summer weekend afternoons and offer a social hub for families and friends who gather with picnics to enjoy the summer groove.

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - The Concord Police Department will officially retire the unit number of fallen Officer Jason Shuping, who was killed in the line of duty last week.
Funeral services for Shuping got underway Tuesday afternoon. The service began at 1 p.m. at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center, located on NC Highway 49 North in Concord. The Rev. Richard Myers officiated the service as the community honored the life of officer Shuping.
