James DeFehr of Troop 28 recently obtained the highest honor in Scouts BSA after working diligently on a charming lending library for a community he has known and loved throughout his life. The library, situated on the grassy area just outside of Galt High School, served not only as a prerequisite for the Eagle award, but as a genuine expression of DeFehr’s commitment to service – particularly in a pandemic that has affected everyone’s lives one way or another. “It’s a take a penny, leave a penny system – but for books,” DeFehr explained. “There’s no record taken; if you see a book you like, you can take it and, if you want to donate, you can donate.”
