Chad Henne was not supposed to be the postseason hero for the Kansas City Chiefs, the man partly responsible for sending the defending Super Bowl champions to their third consecutive AFC Championship Game. Henne, filling in for Patrick Mahomes after the star quarterback suffered a concussion, was tasked with preserving the Chiefs second half lead making the two biggest plays of his career on back-to-back plays to seal the 22-17 victory.

The Western Athletic Conference announced Thursday that five universities have accepted membership invitation effective July 1, 2022.
Abilene Christian University, Lamar University, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Southern Utah University become the WAC s new members. The WAC is on track to have 13 full-time members in 2022-23 following the departure of Chicago State on June 30, 2022.
Four of the institutions – Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin – are in Texas and currently are members of the Southland Conference. The fifth, Southern Utah, is currently a member of the Big Sky Conference.

The Western Athletic Conference is in line for major expansion, but the primary impact of that news is a matter of perspective.
For the WAC, which will add five schools to its athletic roster, football gets top billing. A Thursday press release announcing the additions trumpeted the WAC’s intention to reinstate football even before naming the incoming members.
