On Monday morning coastal residents had the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and receive the much-anticipated COVID-19 vaccine in Galveston County.
According to officials, vaccination slots at the Galveston County Health District vaccine became available at 9:30 a.m. and were filled by 10:15 a.m. Approximately 6,000 vaccine doses are expected in Galveston County next week and those who qualify for the vaccine in the Phase 1B category can register on the Galveston County Health District website when supply comes available. TEXAS CITY, Texas - Appointments are now full after registration opened Monday morning for the Galveston County Health District’s next COVID-19 vaccine clinic.
Registration opened at 9:30 a.m. About half an hour later, the health district said all of the appointments had been filled.
GCHD says those who wish to be vaccinated can visit www.gchd.org/covidvaccine for more information on future appointments.
Currently, only health care professionals, people 65 and older, or those 18 and older with certain medical conditions are being vaccinated.

CONROE, Texas Hundreds of people in counties surrounding Harris County began receiving their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Montgomery and Galveston counties became some of the latest “large vaccination hubs” in Texas after being left off the state’s list the previous week.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Jason Millsaps, chief of staff for Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough.
On Wednesday morning, cars began arriving at Montgomery County’s first mass vaccination site at the county fairgrounds in Conroe.
The Galveston County Health District is offering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to those 65 years of age and older by appointment only beginning Wednesday.
Galveston County is prepared to administer up to 1,000 vaccines daily as it starts mass vaccination efforts in the area, according to Judge Mark Henry. The county has set up a drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination site at Walter Hall Park in League City, which according to health authorities, has the highest rate of coronavirus infection in the area.
