Photo: Twitter/@GAMIR INC Rights10/Mar/2021 Srinagar: In a major embarrassment to the administration of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the newly-elected members of district development councils (DDCs) in the Union Territory on Tuesday, March 9, staged protests against what they said was a “humiliating and insulting” protocol announced for them. The representatives, elected from the grassroots, also boycotted en masse a government programme. This comes at a time when the administration is eager to showcase the representatives to the world as an example of democracy achieved by the Central government after reading down Article 370 and withdrawing the erstwhile J&K’s special status.

Disappointed Over Protocol, Honorarium, DDC Members Stage Protests SRINAGAR: Cutting across the party lines, members of district development councils in Jammu and Kashmir  Union Territory on Tuesday staged protests against the government’s orders about their honorarium and protocol at Jammu where they all had gathered to attend a training programme organized by the Rural Development Department. All elected DDC members from BJP, NC, PDP, Congress, PC and other parties staged protests outside the convention centre over their honorarium and protocol, saying it was a humiliation to them. They are refusing to attend the training programme. “This is our insult and humiliation,” Shabir Ahmad Lone, DDC member from Rohama Rafiabad told news agency KNO.
