US President-elect Joe Biden s nominee for Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has said that the highly infectious new mutant Covid-19 strain discovered in Britain, does not appear to be any deadlier.
Indian-American DrVivek Murthy, who served under Obama administration as Surgeon-General, will co-chair the coronavirus task force with David Kessler, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, that US President-elect Joe Biden has formed as his first core policy step towards fighting the pandemic.

A few countries have taken the decision to halt the flights from and to the UK, amid concerns about a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 that is spreading and growing rapidly in the UK.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the House of commons on December 14, “Over the last few days, thanks to our world-class genomic capability, we have identified a new variant of the coronavirus, which may be associated with the faster spread in the South of England.”

After a coronavirus variant was discovered in South Africa, at least five countries have suspended flights from the region. These countries include Germany, Turkey, Israel, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia. Germany was one of the first nations to introduce the ban as Government Spokesperson Martina Fietz said, “Because of the reported coronavirus mutation, the federal government intends to restrict travel options between Germany and Great Britain and South Africa”.
Suspending Flights to UK: Govt taking time to decide over new strain fears

Bangladesh will decide on suspending flights to the UK after understanding the situation over the spread of a new strain of the novel coronavirus there, Mohibul Haque, senior secretary of the civil aviation and tourism ministry, said yesterday.
He made the comments after several countries have cancelled flights to the UK in the wake of the new coronavirus outbreak.
Talking to reporters at the secretariat, he said, We are aware of the situation. We are collecting information. We are yet to make any decision on suspending flight to the UK. Action will be taken after understanding the situation in this regard.
