Power cuts in west Norfolk affected thousands of homes on Thursday. - Credit: Matthew Usher A power cut which knocked out the electricity supply to 2,338 properties on Thursday morning has been resolved – but a similar problem in the same area will take longer to fix. UK Power Networks said a high voltage overhead electricity line fault was behind the issue which left homes in and around Downham Market without electricity at 7.40am. It affected homes and businesses across nine postcodes in west Norfolk, but was fully repaired by 9am. However, another power cut happened at 8.45am, affecting 14 postcodes in King s Lynn, Wisbech, Sandringham and the surrounding areas.

The utility firm said it had been made aware of the issue at 3.04pm on Bank Holiday Monday, adding its engineers will do everything they can to get your power back quickly . The homes and businesses affected are within a large area stretching from Rackheath, near Norwich, all the way to Scratby on the coast, and from Catfield in the north to Reedham further south.

The fault was first reported at 6.20pm and affects NR7 0 NR10 5, NR11 6, NR12 9, NR13 6, NR15 1, NR16 1, NR16 2 and NR28 0. Power is expected to be restored between 8-9pm, though it could be later depending on the nature of the fault. This is the second major power cut to hit the county on Bank Holiday Monday.
