Saudi Arabia: Folk healer claims he can make blind people see

Abu Dhabi: A folk healer has claimed on social media that he can make blind people see. The healer says he invented 15 medicines for eye diseases that activate the blood of dead or damaged cells, raising questions among people with visual impairment about the effectiveness of the treatment, and why it was not registered with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. In an interview with Al Watan, the traditional healer said he had invented many medicines that treat diabetes and eyes patients. “I have invented 15 folk eye medicines, including those that restore the sight to the blind, increase field of vision, treat blindness caused retinal diseases, as well as eye clot, cataracts, night blindness, flesh, and constant tears streaming, flying flies, in addition to poor eyesight, and a cure for those who see letters connected to each other when reading, the eyes twitching, and improving vision for those who implanted lens in the eye,” the healer claimed.

Dr. Maad Al-Saati was recently appointed executive director general of King Abdullah University Hospital at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. Al-Saati completed a bachelor’s degree in medicine and another bachelor’s degree in surgery from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at King Khalid University in 2003, and completed his internship at King Fahd National Guard Hospital in 2004. Between 2004 and 2006, he was a general surgery resident in King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, and he finished a course at Alliance Francaise. He was an orthopedic resident in a number of hospitals in France, including Lyon Sud Hospital Center between 2006 and 2007, Hospital Edouard Herriot between 2007 and 2008, Hopital Femme Mere Enfant between 2008 and 2009 and Hospital Pierre Wertheimer in 2009.

Lauren Anderson, left, and her mom Kris are recovering from liver-transplant surgery. Kris Anderson was discharged from UW Medical Center on Dec. 14, two days after Lauren. Both are recovering well at the family’s home, and both their livers will grow back to approximately 90% of original size in three months.

Dolan led Waisman Center in two decades of growth Terrence R. “Terry” Dolan, former director of the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Waisman Center and professor in the Departments of Neurology and Psychology at UW–Madison, passed away Dec. 11 at age 80. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, their four grown children and their families. “Terry left a big imprint on the Waisman Center,” says Marsha Mailick, Waisman Center director from 2001 to 2014 and emeritus vice chancellor for research and graduate education. “He set the goal of expanding the Waisman Center building and recruited new faculty to the center, many of whom continue their research at Waisman today.”
