Polio team member dies, two injured in Mansehra road mishap

MANSEHRA: A member of the polio team was killed and two others sustained injuries when a van of the Health Department plunged into a ravine in Parain Khairabad area here on Thursday.
“The team taking part in the pre-campaign polio drive was on the way back to its headquarters in Mansehra when their vehicle met an accident. The area in-charge of the team died and two staffer of the Health Department sustained serious injuries,” Dr Muhammad Siddique, the deputy district health officer, told reporters.
He said though the regular polio campaign would be launched in the district by January 11, the pre-campaign drive was underway across the district.

ABBOTTABAD: With the death of a former professor of medicine Dr Hassan Shehzad in the Ayub Teaching Hospital, the death toll from coronavirus has risen to 196 in the Hazara division, with 110 fatalities alone in Abbottabad.
Also, positive cases have increased up to 7,245 out of total 82,017 cases screened while 4,333 cases are still awaited. Dr Hassan Shehzad was the 32nd doctor who lost life to coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the daily situation report, Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad has a higher number of coronavirus cases where out of the total 776 patients, 609 have recovered. Up to 73 are active cases while 96 patients died so far.
Bridegroom’s brother dies in celebratory firing

MANSEHRA: Celebratory firing claimed the life of a bridegroom’s elder brother in Maswal area of the district on Sunday.
Mohammad Zahid received the bullet wounds and was rushed to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, wherefrom doctors referred him to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in Abbottabad in critical condition but he succumbed to injuries.
Eyewitnesses told police that some participants invited to the wedding ceremony of one Mohammad Adil were firing shots in the air when one of the bullets hit Mohammad Zahid. Personnel of the Khaki Police Station, after lodging the FIR, started an investigation. Meanwhile, the hoteliers association in Balakot held a farewell party in the honour of the outgoing Assistant Commissioner Nawab Sameer Laghari. Laghari has been transferred to Dera Ismail Khan.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will establish an endowment fund with the initial capital of Rs200 million for the rehabilitation of non-Muslim victims of terrorism in the province.
The provincial assembly on Friday passed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rehabilitation of Minorities (Victims of Terrorism) Endowment Fund Bill, 2020, with four amendments for the purpose.
Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani chaired the sitting, which was later adjourned for an indefinite period.
Besides Muslim majority, the members of religious minorities, especially Christians and Sikhs, were also targeted by terrorists in the province.
