Renton mother charged in ‘medical child abuse’ case against adopted 6-year-old daughter By Olivia LaVoice and Q13 News Staff Published  article RENTON, Wash. - Charges have been filed against a Renton mother under investigation for medical child abuse, a case in which prosecutors say is something they haven t seen in recent memory. The investigation into 31-year-old Sophie Hartman began with a series of doctors who believed her now 6-year-old adopted daughter was being given unnecessary medical treatment at the urging of her mother.  Court documents say the child has had nearly 500 medical appointments since she was around 2 years old and has had what doctors called an unnecessary medical procedure, with a surgically implanted feeding tube, as well as a cecostomy tube, to help flush the intestines. The child also had leg braces and a wheelchair despite doctors telling her mother that they were unnecessary, according to court documents.

THE ISSUE As LNP | LancasterOnline’s Aniya Thomas reports in today’s edition, a rally and candlelight vigil will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday in Penn Square in downtown Lancaster to show support for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the face of a growing tide of hateful attacks against them. “More than 6,600 hate incidents targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders were reported to the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic through March 31,” Thomas reported. Rally organizer Julia Cao said Saturday’s event will include speakers from organizations such as Church World Service, the Lancaster Interfaith Coalition and YWCA Lancaster.

Asian American groups push for Bothell murder to be investigated as hate crime Brit Moorer Replay Video UP NEXT Almost two weeks after a man was stabbed to death outside a Bothell apartment building, Asian American social groups are demanding justice. Justice for me, at least my definition, is making sure that we have accountability in place, said Renton City Councilmember Kim-Khanh Van.  Van said she had mixed emotions after hearing about the unprovoked attack on a 29-year old Asian American man last month. She s calling on elected officials to speak out against anti-Asian violence.  Police said John Huynh was stabbed to death outside an apartment building in Bothell. Witnesses said the entire interaction between Huynh and the 25-year-old suspect lasted less than one minute. The suspect has been charged with second-degree murder.

This is the second time I’ve caught video of this person. The other time, he was on a BMX-style bike. BUILDING BREAK-IN: The photo and report are from Jordan I wanted to share a break-in incident we had here at the Broxton (5016 California Ave SW) to make the community aware. An intruder broke into our condo building on the evening of May 4th around 10 pm. They spent over 30 minutes inside the building, stealing at least 1 item and tampering with at least 1 vehicle in our parking garage. We would appreciate any/all feedback from the community on this person’s identity to add to our open police report.
