And a new breed of aquatic enthusiasts are hearing the siren call thanks to the state s newest attraction in Westport: the International Mermaid Museum. Located on the grounds of Westport Winery Garden Resort between Aberdeen and Westport, the museum opened its doors on March 29 with the help of local mermaid pods from Seattle and Portland who made guest appearances.

Next time you head to Washington s coast, you may be distracted by the siren song of a new attraction. The International Mermaid Museum just opened up on the highway between Aberdeen and Westport. This first-of-its-kind museum feels like a trip beneath the waves, right down to its sparkly ocean floor. “Well you know as mermaids, we are just spreading glitter everywhere, it s our thing,” said Kim Roberts – the museum’s founder. Kim and her husband Blaine also co-own Westport Winery and Gardens, and they once operated Hawaii’s biggest dive shop. So taking the plunge for this latest venture came naturally.

Yes, there are mermaids in the Pacific Northwest They get their own museum now, too

Tom Banse / NW News Network Listen / The Pacific Northwest might seem like an unlikely place for mermaids and mermaid culture to catch on given the cold water here. Yet, putting on an eye-catching tail and pretending to be a mythical sea being is a thing across the Northwest. There s even a brand new mermaid museum near Aberdeen, Washington. The museum s grand opening this past week accounted for multiple mermaid sightings in Grays Harbor County on the central Washington coast. One was spotted playing a harp. People observed another with a gray and white tail reclining on a mermaid throne. Yet another, get this, appeared at a book signing.
