Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise Bartlesville Education Promise is Oklahoma s top education nonprofit organization, recognized for its exceptional work in increasing the number of Bartlesville students who graduate from high school. The group was one of 21 Oklahoma organizations selected from around 19,000 nonprofits statewide as a finalist for the prestigious Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards. BEP received the top honor in the education category during an April 24 ceremony at Tulsa s Southern Hills Country Club. It was awarded a glass-inscribed vase, a medallion and $7,500. “It is gratifying to be recognized for our organization’s desire to help more students graduate, said Vanessa Drummond, the group s board vice chair as she accepted the award. Our community has been very responsive to this important mission.”

Oklahoma has one of top U.S. rates of unwillingness to get COVID-19 vaccine Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise Oklahoma has the third-highest rate of COVID-19 vaccine unwillingness in the country, falling behind only Mississippi and Idaho, according to a national poll by the nonpartisan data intelligence group Morning Consult. Twenty-eight percent of Oklahomans say they do not plan on getting the vaccine, and  18% say they are uncertain whether they will, data shows. Oklahoma s unwillingness rate is tied with South Dakota and West Virginia. Mississippi ranks highest at 30%, and Idaho comes in second with 29%. Despite its high percentage of vaccine skepticism, the Sooner state is notable for its large inoculation rate against COVID-19. About 66% of Oklahoma adults report that they already got the shot, the report says.

Oklahoma among worst states for babies to thrive, report says

Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise Oklahoma is among the worst states for babies due to systemic inequities that keep them from having their basic needs met, according to a national report released Thursday. In collaboration with Child Trends, the nonprofit early childhood advocacy group Zero to Three compiled its third annual report  the State of Babies Yearbook 2021  to track how babies are doing in the United States and whether they have the support needed for well-being and stability. Oklahoma is home to 149,364 babies, representing 3.8% of the state’s population. Nearly half live in households with incomes less than twice the federal poverty line, placing them at an economic disadvantage.
