WMWO Chamber of Commerce honors leaders at awards ceremony

The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce held its 2021 Small Business Awards May 13 at the West Monroe Convention Center to honor leaders in the business community. We are proud to recognize these outstanding businesses as true community champions, Amanda Hatten Edge, Chairman of the WMWO Chamber, said in a news release. In a year marked with hurricanes, natural disaster, and pandemic our business community has risen to the innovative challenge.
Dr. Terry King, owner of King Springs, received the 2021 Innovator of the Year Award. In 1975, King and Dr. Noel Mills invented the cardiac umbrella to close holes in the heart without surgery. The technology changed how structural defects in the hears are repaired, both in children and adults.
Graphic Packaging to acquire AR Packaging

Graphic Packaging has agreed to acquire AR Packaging, Europeâs second-largest producer of fibre-based packaging, for approximately $1.45 billion in cash.
The proposed acquisition of AR Packaging is projected to add $1.1 billion in annual sales and $160 million in annual Adjusted EBITDA. In addition, the combination is expected to drive total synergies of $40 million over 36 months following close. The deal is scheduled to be immediately accretive to the companyâs earnings per share and cash flow.
Graphic Packaging hopes that the acquisition will enhance its global scale, innovation capabilities, and value proposition for customers throughout Europe and bordering regions.

A BPIF-led consortium is celebrating after gaining approval for the much-needed Level 2 Print Operative apprenticeship standard.
Level 2 Standard: recognition for the engine-room of the industry
The BPIF called for input at the beginning of the year. It was able to bring the experience gleaned in successfully agreeing the Level 3 standard – which had been under threat – to the process, with Level 2 fast-tracked as a result.
The consortium of printing industry firms that supported the process included representatives from CDS, De La Rue, Graphic Packaging International, Page Bros Group, Reach, Ryedale Group and Westrock Multi Packaging Solutions.
