MHSAA Volleyball Returns Tuesday, Four SW Michigan Teams Remain The continued effort to complete the Michigan High School Athletic Association s fall sports schedule continues this week with the final week of Girls Volleyball statewide. The postseason for volleyball was stopped in mid-November, just before the final three rounds were set to be completed. After two whole months and the pilot program for COVID-19 testing in place for the fall sports, the sport s tournament will continue with its State Finals coming this Saturday, January 16 th. The good news is that the venue for the State Semifinals and Finals will remain the same as it has since the first Fall season of Girls Volleyball in 2007. Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek will host the Semifinal rounds on Thursday, January 14

Courtesy Nora Koster Students at Grandville Calvin Christian Schools can earn a minor in Spanish at Calvin University. The university last fall concluded the first semester of its inaugural Spanish Immersion program. The school welcomed the first cohort of high-schoolers who, according to Dwight TenHuisen, chair of the Spanish department at Calvin University, completed and passed their Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish Language and Culture course and examination their sophomore year. Calvin’s Spanish Immersion program provides high school students the opportunity to further learn and understand the Spanish language and culture at the collegiate level after being immersed in the program since they were kindergarteners.

Grand Rapids Business Journal Courtesy Dégagé Ministries Downtown Grand Rapids homeless shelter Dégagé Ministries said Thursday that longtime Executive Director Marge Palmerlee will retire effective this month and a new leader was chosen to replace her. Thelma Ensink was named to succeed Palmerlee and already has begun working in her new role. Palmerlee joined Dégagé 27 years ago, first as a volunteer and then as executive director for the past 23 years. Dégagé credits her with shaping the nonprofit into the organization it is today by encouraging staff and volunteers to create and offer programs that first and foremost foster dignity and respect for every patron.
