Govt committed to improve agri infrastructure: Chintala

Talking to journalists Nabard chairman G.N.Chintala said the central govt would double down on efforts so as to improve agriculture infrastructure in the country. As per the new budget, the central govt will allocate Rs 40 thousand crore for the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund and Rs 15 lakh crore for agriculture credit. Nabard is also taking steps in order to help cooperative bodies realize their potential like computerizing PACS and transforming them into multi-service centres. Chintala said this to newsmen after his inaugural speech at the 80 th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Agricultural Economics at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said the new farm laws will bring investments, new technologies and create employment. Addressing a gathering organised by BJP’s youth wing to highlight the salient features of the Union Budget, Mr. Pradhan said the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund of ₹40,000 crore will open new doors for agrarian development. Noting that the Union Budget was brought at a difficult time when the economy was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister asserted that the Narendra Modi government has empowered the farmers and workers. The Minister’s remark come in the backdrop of protest by thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, at various border points of Delhi since late November last year
