Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced expansion of the scope of Operation Greens to boost export of agricultural commodities. She said that to boost value addition in agriculture and allied products and their exports, the scope of âOperation Greens Schemeâ that is presently applicable to tomatoes, onions, and potatoes, will be enlarged to include 22 perishable products.
Also, she announced Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Cess aimed at improving infrastructure for the agriculture sector. The Agriculture Infrastructure Funds would be made available to APMCs for augmenting their infrastructure facilities.

The farming community is divided over the Union Budget 2021 unveiled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1. While on the one hand, the FM proposed a 10 percent hike in the farm loan disbursal target to Rs 16.5 lakh crore, the allocation for the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare was slashed by 8.5 percent.
Similarly, the flagship PM-KISAN scheme also saw a 13 percent drop in the budget, which is Rs 10,000 crore less than the last year’s initial allocation.
Protesting farmers announce 3-hour nationwide ‘chakka jam’ on Feb 6

New Delhi, Feb 2: Farmer unions on Monday announced a countrywide chakka jam on February 6 when they would block national and state highways for three hours in protest against the Internet ban in areas near their agitation sites, harassment allegedly meted out to them by authorities, and other issues.
Union leaders told a press conference at the Singhu Border, on the Haryana side, that they will block the roads between 12 pm to 3 pm on February 6.
They also alleged that farmers have been ignored in the Union Budget 2021-22, and water and power supply have been curtailed, and mobile toilet blocks being removed, at their protest venues.
