This is the message the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises & Development (FRIEND)director, Sashi Kiran, has for Fiji National University Students’ Association president Ketan Lal. This newspaper had reported on Monday that FRIEND Fiji and Commissioner Western Mesake Ledua had delivered groceries to students at the FNU Natabua campus last Saturday. In a statement responding to the article, Mr Lal said “no student at any of FNU’s campus facilities has gone hungry”. He also said: “FNUSA is also disappointed with the District Office (Commissioner Western) for entering the campus without following proper protocol or informing relevant heads of FNU”.

Prof Prasad’s call comes after 180 students, who have been living at the campus over the past month, were handed food packs from the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) Fiji last weekend. “It is highly irresponsible for both the FNU and the Ministry of Education to put the students in that kind of situation,” Prof Prasad said.

Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) Fiji launched the health telephone service for those requiring medical treatment in the Lautoka containment area. Those requiring assistance can call 165. “This initiative will facilitate access to medical advice and medication,” said British High Commissioner George Edgar. “We express solidarity with all Fijians and admiration for the outstanding efforts of Fiji’s frontline healthcare workers.” FRIEND Fiji director Sashi Kiran said those needing medical attention would be able to consult a physician and organise their medication.
