A few weeks ago, Feed Our Rural Kids embarked on an effort to raise a million dollars for an endowment fund to ensure local children have enough to eat today and into the future.
The fundraising effort is off to a strong start, with a local couple promising to match the first $50,000 raised.
Margaret Baack and Mike McAdams are all about food.
“It’s such an important aspect in everyone’s life,” Baack said.
A trained French Chef, McAdams owned a restaurant, and the couple established a grocery store in Land O’ Lakes.

The physical effects of going hungry are more apparent to the eye. A poor diet can lead to obesity, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses.
Food insecurity has also been shown to lead to mental illness. Several studies have shown people who can’t get reliable access to food are at higher risk for depression, stress, and anxiety.
That’s why two Northwoods non-profits say it makes perfect sense for them to team up for a fundraiser.
Feed Our Rural Kids and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Northern Lakes chapter are teaming up for the Concert for the Kids next month.
