Ballymahon s economic future has been given a major shot in the arm with government bosses today giving the go-ahead for the development of a new €5.9m community services hub.
The seven figure investment will see a number of locally based agencies including Bridgeways Family Resource Centre relocate to the south Longford town s old school convent building.
The new facility is also expected to pave the way for the development of an innovative remote working hub.

Ballymahon Town Team has today welcomed the announcement of almost €6m in funding under the Rural Regeneration Development Funding stream.
A lengthy application was submitted in late 2020 which would see the town of Ballymahon completely transformed should the submission be successful.
This morning, it was announced that the funding has been awarded and will see a number of vacant buildings in the town be put to good use, while enhancing key services in the local community.

Following the massivenews of funding boost of €4.5m for two projects in Mohill and Dromahair in Leitrim, Boyle and Ballyconnell also also celebrating an economic boost from the Rural Regeneration Fund.
The Minister for Community and Rural Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD has this morning (Monday) announced a significant funding boost for 24 Rural Regeneration Development Fund,
€1,872,900 has been announced for the revival of Boyle town-centre for retail, tourism and cultural revival.
The project proposes to ‘reimagine the King House Cultural Quarter in Boyle Town and is the next step in realising the Boyle 2040 Framework Plan focused on town-center living, economic and tourism development in the centre of the historic town of Boyle..’
Councillor left Perplexed as rural Laois projects rejected for funding

While Portarlington is celebrating today at news of a big €1 million grant - read that story here-, a Fine Gael county councillor says he is taken aback that the constituency of Laois and Offaly has been given zero money from the latest €74 million Rural Regeneration Development Fund.
The complete loss in funding has been noted by Laois Fine Gael Cllr Conor Bergin who suggests not having a Cabinet Minister in Laois Offaly any more is the reason. He notes that Portarlington is in the South Kildare electoral area.
