Tourism by the numbers: Port City Fest weekend in Shreveport-Bossier

Shreveport hosted the Bayou Classic football game on Saturday, April 17, which is the biggest football rivalry in Historically Black College or University (HBCU) history. The football game is normally held in New Orleans each year, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the legendary football game was held at the Independence Stadium. The Southern University Jaguars dominated the field with a 49-7 victory over the Grambling State University Tigers and earned a full year of bragging rights. In celebration of the game, Port City Fest was created to promote an extended weekend of events, April 15-18. Because of the Bayou Classic football game and more than 20 events jampacked in one weekend, there was an uptick in Shreveport-Bossier tourism.
