Police nab 2 with more than 1,000 bags of heroin
WHATELY, Massachusetts (WSHM) Massachusetts State Police arrested two people who were in possession of more than 1,000 packets of heroin.
Police said they witnessed a car weaving in and out of its lane on I-91 Northbound in Whately this past Friday.
A trooper conducted a traffic search and found the driver nor the passenger were licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
Troopers then searched the vehicle which led to the discovery of 1,008 packets of heroin, as well as seven grams of cocaine, and one gram of Xanax.
Tommy Newhall, 37, of Chester, Vermont, and Jennifer West, 36, of Claremont, New Hampshire were arrested.
A traffic stop on Route 91 in the small western Massachusetts town of Whatley resulted in two arrests and over 1000 packets of heroin.
At 12:20 a.m. on Friday, May 7, Trooper Tyler Hersom, assigned to the Massachusetts State Police-Northampton Barracks was on patrol on Route 91 in Whatley. While traveling northbound, Trooper Hersom’s attention was drawn to a blue Chevy Equinox veering in and out of its lane. It was then that Trooper Hersom turned on his blue lights and initiated a motor vehicle stop.
Trooper Hersom noticed the passenger moving around and repositioning her body as the vehicle slowed. Trooper Hersom then approached the vehicle and made contact with the operator, Tommy Newhall, 37, of Chester, VT. When Trooper Hersom directed Newhall to produce his license and registration, Newhall ignored the repeated instructions. WHATELY Massachusetts State Police seized more than 1,000 packets of heroin during an Interstate 91 traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a Vermont resident and a New Hampshire resident.

Jessica Speed, 30, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., was arraigned in Franklin County Superior Court on Monday. She was arrested by the Massachusetts State Police on Oct. 1, 2019, after she was pulled over driving on Interstate 91 in Greenfield with 19 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 16 grams of heroin, a digital scale and $500 in cash in her vehicle.
