Popular singer-composer and social activist Zubeen Garg used the concluding function of the 8th North East Festival 2020 here on Sunday night to announce that he has “not” forgotten about the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and that the protest against the law will be virtual this time.
After his first song, Zubeen brought up the law that is set to dominate campaigns for the 2021 Assembly polls.
“The CAA is coming. Everybody can change side but not me. But this time, it will be different. This time, it (protest) will not be on the road. It will be through mobile. a virtual CAA protest,” Zubeen said in his uninhibited style.

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) strongly condemned Union home minister Amit Shah’s decision to frame rules to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) soon after Covid vaccination begins.
The leading students’ body, which has been heading the anti-CAA movement since December last year, will soon announce its protest schedule against the citizenship law that could continue till the assembly polls.
Aasu general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah on Monday said Aasu will lend full support to the new regional party Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), as an alternative to BJP in the 2021 Assam elections, to resist the CAA implementation move.

Guwahati: Assam is all set to witness the Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (Anti-CAA) protests from December 24 to 31. The Chatra Mukti Sangra Samiti (CMSS), the Students wing of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), had said that it will observe the Anti-CAA week from December 24 to 31.
The CMSS had also informed that it will organise mass conventions in protest against the contentious CAA at Dhemaji, Golaghat and Tinsukia in Assam.

Even as KMSS-backed political party Raijor Dal has vowed to make Akhil’s release a key poll issue ahead of the ensuing assembly election, the party’s chief convener Bhasco De Saikia said that the 70-organization front headed by KMSS has sent a resolution to them, seeking the jailed peasant leader’s candidature from Sivasagar.
