Ralph Northam today announced that 34 small technology-focused businesses in Virginia will receive a total of $3.4 million in Commonwealth Commercialization Fund grants. The grants will support commercialize research in an array of sectors, including agricultural and environmental technologies, autonomous systems, clean energy, cybersecurity, data analytics, life sciences, and space and satellites. These awards mark the inaugural funding round for CCF, which was developed through the Virginia Innovation Partnership Authority.

Trial ordered for Norristown woman accused of helping murder suspect flee

NORRISTOWN — A Norristown woman will face a trial on charges she helped a murder suspect flee to Florida and tampered with evidence during the borough homicide investigation. Asia Marie Jackson, 18, of the 200 block of Minor Street, waived her formal arraignment hearing in Montgomery County Court on charges of hindering apprehension or prosecution and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection with alleged incidents that occurred in April. A judge will now schedule a pretrial conference in the case and set a trial date. Jackson remains free on bail pending her next court appearance. Jackson previously waived her preliminary hearing on the charges.

Norristown man held for trial in gunshot slaying; homicide charges dismissed against second man

NORRISTOWN — One Norristown man was held for trial on homicide charges while a second borough man saw identical charges dismissed after preliminary hearings on Friday and prosecutors vowed to refile the charges in connection with the April fatal shooting of a third man in the borough. Hilton Freeman Jr., 21, of the 200 block of Minor Street, was held for trial, after a preliminary hearing before District Court Judge Gregory Scott, on charges of first- and third-degree murder, possessing an instrument of crime, possession of a prohibited firearm and firearms not to be carried without a license in connection with being the alleged gunman during the April 25 fatal shooting of Junior Pinnock during an altercation at Barbadoes and Ann streets in the borough.
