London, 8 April 2021:
The Libya Business Council (LBC), Libya’s only legally recognized private sector business council (as opposed to other NGO associations), participated in the virtual meeting of the Greece-North Africa Business Gathering yesterday. The event included Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
The event was organized by the Hellenic Arab Chamber of Trade and Development, with the participation of Greek and Arab companies and institutions, official representatives and speakers from Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Greece.
The LBC reported that the meeting shed light on the investment opportunities available to the participating countries, activating trade, economic and tourism cooperation between North African countries and Greece, encouraging commercial and tourism movement, and working to reduce the effects of the economic downturn caused by the Corona pandemic.

Thanks, Liz, and “Kalispera” to everybody. It’s such an honor for me to join you today as we commemorate International Women’s Day. We really wanted to come together today to honor our nominee for the State Department’s recognition. And as Liz said, I’ll have a little bit more to say about Emine Buruci as we continue on this afternoon.
But let me start by saying what a real treat it is to see so many familiar faces on both of the screens. I’m glad to see everybody is healthy and well, and to have so many really stellar representatives of Greece’s women’s groups, human rights NGO, our partners from civil society, the media, friends from here in Athens and as far away as Alexandroupouli, and I particularly want to recognize the presence of His Eminence the Metropolitan of Xanthi, who I see right in the middle of my screen, so thank you for joining us.

ATHENS: Greek authorities are not being naive about their exploratory talks with Turkey but they “will not fall in the trap to undermine the dialogue” by withdrawing from it, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said last week. His comments came as Ankara faced criticism from some quarters that it was acting provocatively toward Athens on a number of fronts. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs had proposed to Ankara that the next round of exploratory talks on the maritime boundary dispute between the two countries take place between March 1 and 5. However, Turkey failed to reply to the invitation. If the meeting does eventually go ahead it will be the 62nd round of the talks, which began 2002 but broke down in 2016 when Ankara froze discussions. Negotiations resumed in January this year amid pressure from the EU, and Germany in particular, to defuse escalating tensions in the eastern Mediterranean.
