Man wanted child porn charges was arrested in Indiana

A 71-year-old former Grayson County resident was arrested Tuesday in Butler, Indiana.
A news release from the Grayson County District Attorney s Office said the man had an outstanding warrant for possession of child pornography from August of 2017. A Grayson County Grand Jury indicted him for 5 counts in January of 2019, the release said. The charges stem from an investigation conducted, in part, by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office. Grayson County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigator Don Tran located (the man) and arranged for his arrest with the Butler Police Department.
Denison stabbing case ends with 40 year prison sentence for suspect

A stabbing incident in Denison has led to a 40 year sentence for a Fort Worth man.
Cody Dean Steele, 29, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a plea agreement with the Grayson County District Attorney’s Office, a news release from the Grayson County District Attorney s Office said.
Judge Brian Gary of the 397th District Court accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Steele.
Due to the nature of the offense, Steele will not be eligible for parole for 20 years.
The release said the case started on May 11, 2019, when a Denison police officer responded to an assault call on West Crawford Street. Witnesses said Steele exhibited a knife and stabbed another individual multiple times. The victim was transported to Texoma Medical Center with several stab wounds to his back.

Damien Benton, 40, of Sherman, was sentenced to 15 years in prison this week after a jury convicted him of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon at the close of a three-day trial. The jury also found that Benton used or exhibited a deadly weapon during the offense, according to a press release from the Grayson County District Attorney s Office.
Judge Jim Fallon of the 15th District Court presided over the trial. Benton will be required to serve at least half of his sentence before being considered for parole.
The D.A. s office said the case began on June 6, 2020, when Sherman Police dispatch received a 911 call from Benton who told dispatchers that he had discovered a dead child near the intersection of Sycamore and East Street. During the 911 call, the dispatchers could hear the distinct sound of gunshots.

A Denison man s plea to theft and evading police charges got him a 33-year prison sentence last week.
Information from the Grayson County District Attorney s Office said Richard Eugene Roberts, 53, was sentenced to prison for 12 separate charges of theft and evading police.
The press release said the sentence resulted from an open plea of guilty with a cap of 35 years. Judge Brian Gary of the 397th District Court accepted the open plea and heard evidence of the many offenses as well as Roberts’ extensive criminal history. Over a period of time from November, 2019 to May 2020, Richard Roberts was identified as the person stealing from various stores and gas stations in Denison and Sherman. In many of the offenses, he would enter a store, load up a shopping cart with merchandise, and then walk out without payment.
