A recidivist drink driver was five times the legal breath alcohol limit when stopped by police in central Timaru during Level 3 lockdown in 2020. Graeme John Skelton, 39, appeared before Judge Joanna Maze at the Timaru District Court on Tuesday for sentencing having previously pleaded guilty to driving on a zero alcohol licence while his breath contained alcohol and driving while his licence was suspended or revoked. Skelton was on a zero alcohol licence because of drink-driving recidivism when, on May 7, 2020, he blew 1432 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath after being stopped by police on Stafford St, Timaru and automatically served with a 28-day driver licence suspension.
