There s going to be a ton of focus on the New York Jets latest draft class during the 2021 season, and for good reason. They selected some players who could be franchise cornerstones for years to come, such as quarterback Zach Wilson, offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker and more.
However, there were already some talented players on the Jets roster heading into the offseason. Even though New York went 2-14 in 2020, that doesn t mean there weren t some players on the team who could end up being part of a turnaround for the franchise.
With the free-agent additions and their rookies, some returning Jets players will have more competition for playing time during training camp and the preseason. In order to secure jobs, they ll have to impress and put themselves in positions to have big seasons.
The 2021 NFL rookie class of quarterbacks certainly has plenty of hype with five Round 1 draftees along with three others who were selected on Day 2. The conversation inevitably begins with Trevor Lawrence, but skips Zach Wilson and instead tends to continue with Trey Lance and Justin Fields. However, as the 2021 NFL season approaches, Zach Wilson and the Jets are trending upwards into fantasy relevance.
That last sentence seems like a rich statement given the recent history of the Jets offense. They have finished 32nd and 31st the past two seasons in points scored on offense with four bottom-10 finishes in the past five years. However, the addition of offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, a former college quarterback and passing game coordinator for the 49ers, should help. Add in an aggressive approach to improving the talent on offense and it’s hard not to have some level of optimism for improvement.

3 potential breakout players for New York Jets in 2021 NFL season
With a good draft, the Jets have added even more young talent to the roster. They also have a new head coach in former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Saleh seems ready to coach a team– a talented group that seems to have what it takes to become a great squad.
While it may not happen in year one of Saleh’s tenure, the Jets are ready to compete soon. It’s all about getting the talent to coalesce in Saleh’s system to create a great team.
The Jets drafted quarterback Zach Wilson with the second overall pick, and he has all the tools to become a franchise quarterback. They also did a great job of surrounding the rookie with weapons and protection through the rest of the draft.
