Female nurses are 70% more likely to commit suicide than female doctors and around twice as likely to do so as the general female population, according to US researchers.
The authors of the study were surprised by the findings and said the rate among nurses was “much higher than expected”, which suggested not enough attention had been paid to the welfare of nursing staff.

Writing in the journal JAMA Psychiatry, they noted that there are roughly three million nurses working in the US, of which 85% were women.
