In 2018, President Bio promised to “Expand and improve school feeding programmes
in all pre-schools and primary schools.” Three years later we are examining this promise.
Accomplishments
There are several important accomplishments in school feeding since 2018. For example, the national budget included a dedicated line to school feeding, totalling 70 billion Leones for 2020 and 71 billion Leones for 2021. This May, Sierra Leone also approved the National School Feeding Policy, to guide the implementation of the School Feeding Programme (SFP), managed by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE).
FLAGS and bunting have gone up across Skipton to mark the official launch of a £1.5 million scheme to improve the look of the town centre. Schoolchildren created the colourful flags which now decorate High Street, Otley Street and Coach Street to mark the town becoming just one of 60 across the country chosen to benefit from becoming a High Street Heritage Action Zone area. The Government funded, Historic England run scheme aims to secure long lasting improvements to historic high streets for the communities who use them. The town hall, which is due to re-open in June following a £4.7 million transformation will receive more money to complete the restoration of its facade, while work will also take place on the town’s ginnels and other historic buildings.

The firm said it is spreading the word so that local residents know that its vans will be driving around the area through the night as a safety measure. It has also warned residents to take extra precautions with their homes and vehicles for the next few weeks.
Glen Crosthwaite from Servo said: “We’ve been made aware that there is a group in the area, who are trying to get into vehicles and gain access to homes on the Saxted estate and surrounding streets. We want to urge people to take extra care – don’t leave possessions on show in cars, use security lights at night where possible and keep an eye out for each other. We’ve stepped up our patrols in the area to combat the problem so if people see a Servo van driving around through the night, be aware that it’s part of a security patrol.”
